Substance misuse support

We work with local treatment services to support people on a recovery programme, including supervised treatment and access to clean equipment. Everything is done discreetly, in our private consultation room, without judgement.

Pharmacy First — what we can treat

Our pharmacist can assess you and, where it’s appropriate, supply treatment including prescription-only medicines. Whether treatment is suitable depends on your symptoms, your medical history and national clinical protocols — we may advise something else or refer you on.

NHS age eligibility for each condition.
ConditionNHS eligibility
Sinusitis12 years and over
Sore throat5 years and over
Earache1 to 17 years
Infected insect bites1 year and over
Impetigo1 year and over
Shingles18 years and over
Urinary tract infectionWomen 16 to 64

Outside these age ranges? You can still be seen. Our pharmacist prescriber can assess and treat many of these conditions privately — ask us and we’ll explain what’s involved and what it costs before anything goes ahead.

Private services

Pharmacist prescriber consultations

We have two independent prescribers on the team, so for many conditions you can be assessed and treated here, usually the same day, without waiting for a GP appointment. If we think you need a doctor, we will tell you plainly and help you get there.

Treatment for common conditions

Assessment and, where it is clinically suitable, treatment — including prescription-only medicines. Suitability always depends on your symptoms and medical history.

Travel clinic

A consultation covering where you are going, what you need and what it will cost. Please come and see us 6–8 weeks before you travel where you can — some courses take time to complete.

Private vaccinations

For people who are not eligible on the NHS, or who would rather not wait.

Health tests

Tests done here in the pharmacy, with results while you wait and a pharmacist to explain what they mean. A test is a snapshot, not a diagnosis — we will always tell you if you should see your GP.

CholesterolMeasures the fats in your blood that affect your risk of heart disease and stroke.
HbA1cShows your average blood sugar over the past two to three months — used to look for diabetes.
Thyroid (TSH)Checks whether your thyroid is working as it should. An under- or over-active thyroid can cause tiredness, weight change and low mood.
Iron stores (ferritin)Measures how much iron your body has in reserve. Low iron is a common cause of tiredness.
Vitamin DChecks your vitamin D level, which matters for bones, muscles and immunity — and is often low over winter.
TestosteroneMeasures your testosterone level, sometimes checked for low energy, low mood or low sex drive.
PSA (prostate)A blood marker that can be raised in prostate problems. We will talk through what a result can and cannot tell you before you decide to test.
CRPShows how much inflammation is in your body, which helps tell a bacterial infection from a viral one and guides whether antibiotics would help.
Strep AA throat swab that checks for the bacterial infection behind some sore throats.
Flu A and BA swab that checks whether your symptoms are flu.
PregnancyA pregnancy test done here, with someone to talk to about the result either way.
OvulationChecks the hormone surge that happens around ovulation, to help you work out your fertile days.

Our prescribing pharmacists. Rajendiran Duraisamy and Mohamad Saleh are both independent prescribers. That means that for many conditions one of them can assess you and prescribe here in the pharmacy — no GP appointment, usually the same day. If we’re not the right people to help, we’ll tell you who is.

Need help when we’re closed? Call NHS 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk for urgent advice. In an emergency, always call 999. Please don’t send symptoms or other medical details by email — call us or come in and we’ll talk in private.
